November 27, 2002...and i go at turkeytime...shall be intermittent for the next week-and-a-half or so, as i am taking time off. you have every right to expect anything you want while i'm away. >D happy hols to all. NOT KNOWING WHEN TO QUIT...no, not me. although i've been posting lots of little silly bits today, and i'm sorry. i'll try to stop after this. but each of these things warranted mentioning, and it seemed wrong to nudge them all together into one happy giant entry. but, er, as if the RIAA weren't already completely out of their minds. what is the bloody point of disallowing posting of CD covers to an archive? O.O;;; and how far does this extend? say you wish to sell something of yours---a perfectly legal copy, obtained by perfectly legal means---either on your own website or via eBay or some other similar place? can you not post up a scan of the item in question so that whoever might be choosing to purchase it from you has some idea of a) what the item in question is, and b) what sort of condition it's in? and just for personal edification purposes, or to display artwork from things that other people might otherwise not get to see (say, from things that are very difficult to find/out of print/ridiculously expensive/etc.)...it's a crime to allow other people to view it? can we not let people view our CD collections if they come over to our houses unless they actually own the CD in question, and we have notarised proof that this is the case? this. is. just. STUPID. even moreso than previous arguments of theirs. this fucking takes the biscuit and secrets it away somewhere, never to be seen again*. that such a body as the RIAA felt that such inanity required this action utterly beggars belief. fucktards. >P * = unlike little Lemmiwinks. GOODBYE TO ELTINGVILLEin case anyone reading this cares, Evan Dorkin's explained what's known about what happened with the Welcome to Eltingville pilot. you can read it here. it makes me really sad. and i REALLY don't understand at all how this got shitcanned and the frigging Ripping Friends continue on with unfunny episode after unfunny episode. >P NO.1 BLUE MURDERsome things, i swear, make me want to stab particularly certain songs. the counting crows' "Mr. Jones" is one amongst many. i'm not entirely sure i can explain why it makes me feel so very violent. it just does. i'm sure you've got some of these, too. care to share? i'm curious. *gnaws donut rabidly and accidentally sloshes hot tea down her front* November 26, 2002RADIO, RADIO, RADIO...
forgot to mention; saw a bit of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City this weekend. Spaz' brother's got it. and it's fairly entertaining, as one would expect. although i still don't think i'll ever be as amused as i was when i was driving a fare around in my taxi in GTA3, and then i crashed, rolled the taxi down an embankment, and caused the message, "your passenger has fled in terror!" to come up onscreen. XXXD anyway, one of the more amusing things to me about this series has always been the radio stations, and the fact that you can switch them around in whatever car you're driving. which is particularly funny if you consider the fact that i generally try not to listen to the radio much in real life. heh. so anyway, one station (The Wave, i think, is its name) was playing some Frankie Goes To Hollywood* song (not "Relax," for once, which would only make Ben Stiller pop into my head...XD). which wouldn't ordinarily have done anything to merit mentioning, except that the DJ felt the need to comment on Trevor Horn's production of the band**. thusly provoking the following transaction (or a reasonable facsimile thereof): me: *snickersnickerchortle*...they mentioned Trevor Horn. XD his brother hasn't got very far in the game yet, but he hasn't had it for very long, either. so no hookers yet. XD in other gaming news, i forgot to mention that we saw a LONG commercial for Metroid Prime before we saw The Ring a couple of weeks ago. leading both Spaz and i to go O.O;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; at the screen for quite some time; neither of us daring to blink. after the commercial (which looked AMAZING) was finally over, Spaz (in a very tiny voice) said, "...I need a Game Cube." which made me smirk, as i knew that's what he would say. meanwhile, i kept thinking it would be really cool if they did an entire Metroid movie that looked as amazing as this commercial. yes, i know. video game movies, by definition, tend to suck massive amounts of ass. Metroid's certainly got the story for it, though. and no matter how anyone felt about the Final Fantasy movie, most agree that it at least looked amazing. i know it'll never happen, but man. if done properly, it'd be damn cool. ^^ hrrm, i hope i get to play more of Lunar 2 during my vacation. because i really would like to finish the game in this lifetime. --;;;;; * = hands down, that has got to be one of the single dumbest band names EVER. although you didn't need me to tell you that. but. i think this footnote is completely warranted. XD ** = bless your pointy little heads, Rockstar. November 25, 2002On! On! On!...and this may be the best christmas tree ornament ever. pity it's $46. XXD also, my head groans with the effort of maintaining its structural integrity. >D in conclusion, i would very much like a mashed tapato man wis pasketti hair. thank you. *hic*...i swear, it's all the DayQuil...Dear Mrs. Weasley, I've been reading tales of your exploits for some time, but have long been very curious to know: exactly how does one go about sending pies via post? Even via Owl Post, I'm not entirely sure how they'd get someplace without being beaten/broken up and/or otherwise not arriving intact at their intended destinations. There's also the issue of potential spoilage to consider. While I can understand how big companies which are more well-equipped for this sort of thing (such as mail-order chocolatiers) do this all the time, I must confess to being somewhat at a loss as to how an average, everyday individual might go about doing such things by oneself? Since you've got loads of experience in this arena, I thought that you must be the person to ask. Any and all help you can offer would be most appreciated, particularly as the holiday season draws so very near. Sincerely, A Puzzled Pastrician AND IT'S SO EASY WHEN YOU'RE EVIL...
first things first, via Tanzy: (as though there was ever any doubt, what? XD) in other news, still sick. rah. saw Bowling for Columbine yesterday, and should i feel coherent enough later to attempt to write about it, i shall. but seeing as i couldn't even pluck up enough energy to attempt a review of CoS last weekend, i wouldn't count on it. XD thusly, a season of endless pies and even more endless knitting prepares to rev into high gear. a pity more sleep won't be had, but thank whatever/whoever you choose i've got thursday, friday, and all of next week off. because, by Hermione's paring knife, i'll need it. o.o;; (anyone want to place any bets on when i'm going to give up and start spinning my own damn yarn, too? XD) November 22, 2002LOS DOS TORRESon the way downstairs to retrieve a big cup o' tea and some sort of carbohydrate-laced foodstuff (feeling a bit queasy, and contemplating taking dayquil, so must take adequate precautions so as not to spew geysers of orange everywhere around my cube), i saw a wonderful book, one that poses an incredibly important question. the title was, Are You Bleeding Yet? then i retrieved a sweet roll (note to self: stick to a donut and/or a bagel next time...o.o;;;) and some tea and discovered that they've got Two Towers java jackets now. so pretty and blue. ^^ it's the little things, yo. *coughs* possibly more later. November 21, 2002SO WHERE DOES SNAPE FIT IN...to all of this? it's a simple question, and it demands a simple answer. inquiring minds want to know. *snort* (and all of a sudden, thoughts of "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" come unbidden into my mind. because really, one wouldn't even have to change that particular title, would one? >D) November 20, 2002UM.right. protein shakes, anyone? O.O;;;;; ...and in other UM!-provoking news, does THIS not scream christmas card to anyone here?!?!?!? (and yes, that is Alex James out of Blur, for anyone not already blinded by this photo...) didn't think so. ...naughty christmas indeed. *hides* November 19, 2002... ...squee! lookee lookee! Lego... ...squee! lookee lookee! Lego Aragog!!!! (i am such a tool. ;.;) ...and also, there is a mystery pianist in the bathroom again. just thought you ought to know. RAISED ON A DIET OF BROKEN BISCUITS
weekend went...probably about as well as could be expected. i really do wonder when i'm going to finally snap, lose all patience, and tell certain parties to fuck off. perhaps i'll never have spine enough to, but who knows? one can certainly hope. mater brought nummy tiramisu; shall have to tell her so when next we speak. didn't get to enjoy it after the pizza saturday, as we were all too full and had to rush to get her on the train home, lest she be stuck taking the 10:30 one. went to see the Chamber of Secrets as planned; good thing i bought tickets the day before via the online service, as it was completely sold out (shock, horror). we didn't sit in the most optimal of seats, but it could've been worse, as well. as for what i thought, well...without being spoilery (if i'm up to it, i'll write a full review later), Rupert Grint makes the best faces. i'd agree with you that it's incredibly annoying that he's always and forever The Witty Sidekick in filmic form, but i do have to admit much joy in watching the faces he makes. cos he's so good at them. XD Felton looks like a squirrel. as Harpy observed, an albino squirrel...and this does indeed save him from mausdom, so all is well. the eyebrows are hilarious. but the sneer makes me want to shove acorns in his cheeks! XD Williams' score was passable this time round. could've been a lot better had someone else been scoring it, but at least it didn't hurt nearly as much as the score for the first movie did. ol' Johnny-boy is still the king of self-ripoff-artists, though. i can't tell you how many times throughout the film Spaz turned to me and said, "ooh, listen, now it's the Imperial March!" or something similar. yawn. can we please start giving over our scoring privileges to people OTHER than the select Handful Who Score EVERYTHING for Hollywood? i know that's asking too much, but sheesh. even those who've at one time or another done something useful, mostly have long outlived (and outscored) their usefulness. i implore you to remand scoring duties to other parties. ;.; (favourite silly throwaway bit that only amused my inner 10-year-old-boy has to be Sean Biggerstaff-as-Oliver-Wood delivering some line about how the Gryffindor quidditch team needs to start practicing harder and longer...*snerk*) as for other things, have been getting sick since last week. probably stress-related (shock, horror). stayed home yesterday. coughing up lungs. joy. but i made curry, which is mostly your fault...but which is not a bad thing in the slightest. it was super-improv curry, as i didn't have everything proper needed for it. i'm most familiar with Thai curry, so i made a basic red coconut one, minus the coconut milk (as i didn't have any handily lying around) and instead substituting some cream mixed with milk. got a decent texture and consistency out of it, so no complaints. ^^ added in chicken, sliced carrots, and some rice stick and it was all very happy indeed. helped clear some of the sickness out of me, i think. have also been drinking tea by the potsful this weekend, mostly of the old-family-remedy sort. all that involves is some chopped up ginger (amount to be determined by your taste) boiled for quite some time in water, with a bit of lime juice, some sugar, and some crushed red pepper added in. it sears going down, but it definitely helps. it's really good if you've got a head cold, but any congestion at all seems to be helped by it. ought to scoot off now for training... November 15, 2002I'D LIKE TO SEE THEM TRY THIS ON MEthis is hysterical. absolutely unbelievable. and i can say with reasonable certainty that someone would have a hell of a time trying this on me. XXXD sorry i've not been particularly substantive. i've been very boring lately, and haven't felt like saying much---and so i haven't. go to see CoS tomorrow with Spaz and my mom. i ph34r greatly. >.<;;; ONE PEEP TO RULE THEM ALL...and in the darkness eat them. oh Fi, Fi, Fi... ...thank you. XXXXD (more later.) November 14, 2002ON THE DANGERS OF TOO MUCH MATRYOSHKA DOLL PLAY...apparently, if you do it too much, you get the urge to do things like this around this time of year. O.O;;; i'm a firm believer in playing with my food, but...wow. *goes out to garage to get the hammer* YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS UP...really, you can't. went to a certain christiancrafting superstore yesterday to get some necessary items for stuff i'm making. it's cheap (relatively), and they mostly had what i needed. my total came to $16.66, and i have the receipt to prove it. i can even scan it if you'd like. XXXXXXXD
November 13, 2002FOLLOW THE LEGO BRICK ROADo.o;;; ...and if anyone wants me when i'm on vacation at the end of this month, chances are good i may well be here. >D more later. November 11, 2002HOW COULD I FORGET?...the most important event of the weekend?!??! Spaz went over to his parents' house Friday night and retrieved his Intellivision. i'd never played with one before, and indeed, had never even seen one in person. (stop taking that out of context right this instant. >D) he had tons of games, too. it needs some cleaning, and the connectors didn't want to work on the main TV downstairs, so it was taken upstairs and hooked up to my little 13" TV that we rarely use. which seems right, somehow. this makes me wish that the Odyssey that Mariam's family had up in their attic hadn't broken. cos it would've been interesting to show him, as he's never played with one of those. thusly, a happy Friday evening was spent...and more of the weekend as well. bwee. ^^ NO SURPRISEScourtesy of Fi: ![]() Which Member of the Endless Are You? *snerk* ehehe. weekend was full and fairly productive. saw The Ring. enjoyed it pretty well. was surprised to see it scored by Hans Zimmer. while i'd never say "ooh, i really love his stuff!" in quite the same way i might with, oh, say, Angelo Badalamenti, it's nice to know that someone who does a lot of bigger stuff doesn't rip himself off as much as many other people do. that's really irksome. *coughcoughjohnwilliamscoughcough* i rather liked the score, in fact. but i REALLY want to see the original. must procure region-free DVD player. >D made loads of stuff yesterday. hadn't made bread in awhile, so i made a loaf of buttermilk which turned out pretty yummy. also made another huge pot of cream of broccoli/potato/cheddar soup, which i think i've perfected now. it seems obvious to me now, but in using cornstarch to thicken it, i was always getting nasty lumps that i couldn't quite get out unless i created a huge mess using an electric mixer beater shoved into a drill (XXXD)...and even then, that still didn't remove them all. Spaz suggested i whip out the sifter, and i really don't know why i didn't think of it sooner. soup is PERFECT now. and thick. num. ^^ also made an apron, as i'm sick of slopping powdery substances all over my clothes whilst cooking and baking---a particular problem if one wears a lot of black and/or other dark colours, such as i do. it turned out well (after much yelling and swearing at the sewing machine, of course...XD). also did that brake boot for the '98 Jetta, but while my old problems have been fixed (would take too long to explain), a new one has arisen which i think can be defeated without too much difficulty. still, i'm getting annoyed with myself for this taking so long. it shouldn't be so bloody DIFFICULT. really. >P had a scary thing happen, too; somehow, i spooked Diesel and she took off tearing around the living room at breakneck speed last night, when Spaz had her out of the cage and running around shortly before we were going to go to sleep. in the course of her mad dash (which was the fastest we've ever seen her), she managed to tear one of her toenails on her front left paw (the one equivalent to where her thumb would be, if she had one) COMPLETELY OFF. >.<;;; well, no---technically, it was still hanging by a thread; it came off in full later on up in the bathroom. but there was quite a bit of blood...it was quite scary. we need to get styptic powder when we go to the pet store to get food for her next time. it did stop; we used cotton balls, pressure, and a bit of hydrogen peroxide (which i felt weird about using, cos i don't want her licking it up, but i didn't want her to get infected, either). she's fine as of this morning, and acting completely normally. will have to keep a close watch on her, though. O.O;;; it reinforced that she's really the best bunny ever, though---i don't know that any other bunnies i've ever known would be so well-behaved when something like that happens. nor during someone tending to their wounds. she was amazingly well-behaved; she's incredibly good-tempered anyway, but this was still a bit of a surprise to me. Diesel is so sweet. *^^* am going to start a new project this week; making a hat and hunter's mittens (you know, the kind where it's a mitten with a flap where you can unfasten the top bit via a closure in the palm, flip that bit up, and have what amounts to a fingerless glove inside?) to match the scarf i made Mariam last year. this will be my first foray into knitting in the round. i ph34r greatly, and you should too. but hey, perhaps i'll start making my own damn socks! XD my stomach and back hurt. can't i go home yet? ;.; November 09, 2002MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOUR IS A PRICK
much to do this weekend. will be going to see The Ring in a couple of hours. and found out Mariam will be too, although not with us. though she might join in the fun next weekend of going to see CoS with me, Spaz, and my mom. we shall see. i haven't seen the original Ring yet. hope to sometime so i can compare. ^^ anyway, went to the book sale and got free bookish goodness yesterday. not a lot, though---only two things, in fact. unfortunately, the title mentioned below was gone, but honestly...how could the contents have lived up to the title? perhaps i'm better off not having got it? XD anyway, onto the two i did get. one was a cookbook. a soup cookbook, in fact. called Caldos Quentes: Uma Opcão de Inverno Para as Quatro Estacões, by Catharina Vicentini. bom apetite!~~~ >D~~~ the other i picked up mostly because of the disclaimer at the front. it is, in fact, one of the best disclaimers i think i've ever read. here you are: the book is a reprint of Edmund Crispin's The Moving Toyshop, done to be part of Bantam's "The Collection of Mystery Classics." in a really nice padded leatherette binding that i wish more books were done in. and it was free. i've never read any of his work before, nor do i know much about it. but i couldn't pass it up with that disclaimer, and especially as it was free. >D must hop off now...much to do. have good weekends, all of you! ^^ November 08, 2002I AM LUCIFER...and i feel obligated to inform you that we had a book at the book sale with one of the best titles ever. i know Fi will get a kick out of it, for one. it's called A Perfectly Serviceable Boy. XXXXD if it's still there when the books are free later on this afternoon, i'll grab it, i promise. but i highly doubt the contents (whatever they might be) will live up to that title. pity, too. in other XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXD November 07, 2002...ever so substantive, i amdude. DJ Assault vs. Hava Nagila. O.O;;;; this i have GOT to hear. XXXXXXXXXXXD November 06, 2002A FUNDRAISER FOR A RESTLESS SEA
if anyone ever tries to tell you that RPGs have nothing useful to teach, don't believe a word they say. i got off the train this morning and was about to head down the stairs from platform-level to the street, to walk the final few blocks to work. however, i decided to stop before going down the stairs and switch out the CD that had been in my portable disc player. while stopping off to the side of the top of the staircase in order to do so, an older lady came up the stairs, saw what i was doing, and commented that she thought the player i had probably works a lot better than the one she's got at home. and then went into detail about the problems she'd been having with it. so i politely asked what kind it was, and she said it was a big boombox type of configuration. since i'd really been meaning to find out who made it when asking my previous question, i then asked her flat out, who made it? she looked confused, and i asked if it was a Sony. she got the ooh-someone's-flicked-the-lightswitch-on look on her face, heartily agreed that it was indeed a Sony, and then i told her that it seems most single-disc Sony CD players that i and people i've known have had all have a common problem: the spring mechanism that holds the laser up to read the disc tends to give out after a certain period of time (usually a few years; more or less depending on level of [ab]use). (i could also have gone into the ribbon cable problems that Sony Sports discmen and walkmen seem to have, but i didn't, as i thought it would just get confusing. just say NO to ribbon cables whenever possible! >.<;;;) so i advised her to get it looked at, and if she bought a new one, probably to avoid Sony. it seems that non-single-disc-playing units of theirs are okay, as are those that use a drawer to play even a single disc. and she thanked me, and we went off in our respective directions. in conclusion, i don't know that this means i'm any closer to getting extra bromides, but i've got to repay all those nice people in all those villages in the West Katarina Zone somehow...they've always been so helpful, after all. XD also, finally went to the public library by our house last night. wasnae very exciting; collection would've been wunderbar about, oh, a decade ago. still, i found six books to take home with me. chief amongst these are DWJ's A Tale of Time City and Philip Pullman's The Ruby in the Smoke. i've of course never read the DWJ book (as noted here recently, i hadn't read anything of hers till recently, which is a complete and utter crime which i'm repeatedly tripping over myself trying to set right lately), and while i did read and very much enjoy the entire Sally Lockhart trilogy when i was about 12, i don't really remember much else about it. so, time to reacquaint myself, ne? ^^ good news about this library card, despite overwhelming disappointment in resources available in our local library is that it allows us access to most other libraries in the county. there are several i know of with pretty good collections. is it sad that i'll probably do more library-hopping than bar-hopping? o.o;;; le sigh. now all i need is a time-turner. XD November 05, 2002BETTER LATE THAN NEVER...though i REALLY wish i'd found this out sooner. in light of certain recent incidents, does anyone else here find it more than slightly amusing that today's the birthday of both Adams, Bryan AND Ryan??!?! XXXXXXXXD oh lord, am i easily amused... *snerk* time to bounce off home now. till next... TRUER WORDS......and i'm very proud to note that HSL is on the first page of sources when you Google this particular search query. XD in other news, there's actually going to be an Eraserhead DVD. O.O;;; i'd still prefer an LD, of course, but that's better than nothing. and since Monsignor Lynch is being so finicky over the compression and such, i'm sure it'll be as quality as it can possibly be, given the medium. so good for that. ^^ also mentioned on that page is the full schedule which Bravo is showing Twin Peaks on. and it's stupid. i still maintain that the wee hours of the morning are no time to be viewing anything to do with Lynch, but...well, er, whatever. perhaps you'll think it's all a dream? XD finally, of other amusement on that page (for anyone who cares)...no one seems to know who actually owns the rights to the TV broadcast version of the TP pilot! O.O;;; XXXD it's sad, i know, but it's also unbelievably funny. i doubt we'll ever see an official release of that version (as opposed to the European version) ever in my lifetime. d'oh. perhaps more later. i must go, work, and revel in my sheer, unadulterated g33kdom. XD November 04, 2002UNDERSTAND THE WORLD WE'RE LIVING IN
earlier today, i made plans for Spaz and i to go see CoS with my mom. a whole day of it, in fact, wherein she will come out to our house (and finally see it for the first time), we'll go to the movie, i'll make pizza, and then we'll put her on the train back home. these plans are taking place in under two weeks. on Saturday, 16th November, to be exact. (yes, the weekend the movie opens. there are reasons.) i deserve cookies, and that's all i have to say on the subject. o.o;; November 03, 2002SEW WHAT?
my sister is due back from Mauschwitz any time now, at which point she will be remanded safely into the custody of Ye Olde Almighty Bibliothéque. i shall call her later to learn more details of her internment. in other news, my only wish right now is that my sewing machine were a living, breathing, sentient being. if only so i could throttle the very life out of it. that will be all for the moment. *growls menacingly* November 01, 2002I NEED CANDY
---Meatwad so yesterday was that lovely, wonderful day that only comes once a year, wherein hordes of small children dress up as small demons and expect small treats for their efforts. MC Pee Pants would be ever so proud. 'tis truly a pity that i saw no one dressed up as him yesterday, even though i took the day off specifically so i could stay home and enjoy Halloween. and no one dressed up as Carl, either, Foreigner belt or no Foreigner belt. oh woe is me. XD and i realised, too, that yesterday was the very first time ever that i'd given out candy on Halloween. sure, i got plenty of it when i used to trick-or-treat. and i took little kids to get plenty of it when i was babysitting. but this was a new experience entirely, for someone who grew up in apartment complexes in the city. ^^ we got rid of most of our candy last night, which was good. there's still some left at home, which is good too. and my boss brought in candy for us here at work too, which is good---if slightly dangerous, since the bowl is sitting right behind me and peering over my shoulder as i write this. ^^;;; anyrate, cleaned a bit, watched some TV...FX was running a Buffy marathon, and so i watched. also watched bits of the Full Moon Fright Night marathon on SciFi, but not too much...was disappointed that the one movie in that series that i wanted to finally see the end of wasn't on. or else i'd missed it by the time i woke up. drat. i can't even remember the proper name of it, but it involved someone trying to resurrect famous historical horror figures (definitely Frankenstein, and i think also Dracula and...drat, i forget what the other one was...?) by Bravo seems to be running Twin Peaks again. though i don't know if it's in order. Spaz saw that the pilot was on last night (figures, it's the one episode we own on LD...though of course, it's the European edit with the silly ending tacked on), and when we woke up this morning and i turned the TV on to check the weather, another episode much further along in the first season was on. shall have to check into this. maybe they've been running them at insanely early hours on Fridays all along...? meanwhile, here's this Multiple Intelligence Inventory i got from Puu and Krissy. here are my results: linguistic: 43 not of too much surprise, although i'd still argue that these are far too generalised to really do anybody any amount of good. but you already knew that. so nevermind. XD weekend o' fun awaits. beginning tonight, with a fun-filled band party wherein we shall sit at Mike's, order pizza, and and speaking of ph34r, i already was quite ph34rful of you, just so you know. i send many huggles and quite possibly a whole nice long chapter (in a few weeks, if all goes well) of that fic your way, darling Jazzlah. ^-^ (and i mention this publicly so that i might feel slightly more motivated to go through with it, in case you wondered...XD) oh, and i'm the first TWO results if you search for the phrase speedchannel sucks on Google. >D because yes, yes it does. i miss Speedvision. ;.; lo, Steve Matchett, the things we put ourselves through for your commentary...>.<;;;; *baps Rick De Bruhl over the head repeatedly with a lollipop* |
