July 30, 2002I WANT IT WAY WAY TOO LOUD
right now: so yesterday, i took the train home as per usual, right? got off at my stop, walked to the nearest crosswalk that led across the tracks, and waited for the trains (one in each direction) to pass so that i could cross. before getting there, i noticed a lady with a young child crouched down and staring at something with looks of complete and utter awe on their faces. so of course, i turned to look. it was a TURTLE. a REALLY REALLY BIG TURTLE. it was SO COOL! ^____________^ i only hope it was okay...it was really, really fast, too. it was on the platform at first, not far from this mom and her little boy...and then it started running (well, as much as a turtle can run, i suppose) off into the grass and over by the shade underneath a tree that was behind some newspaper boxes. i wonder where it came from. and i REALLY hope it's okay...i mean, it would've had to cross a busy parking lot to get anywhere, although there are a few big ponds and such not far away. it was HUGE, though. aside from visiting big aquariums and such, i'd never seen a turtle this big before. it was bigger than the monitor on my computer. O.O;;; anyway, so then i went home. and ended up having a Tonkatsu Emergency, as our grill was apparently really low on propane and i didn't really find this out till i'd already put pork on it and then realised hrrm, it's taking an awful long time to cook, and hrrm, shouldn't the grill be hotter than this, having been on so long? --;;; no worries. tonkatsu's pretty easy to make. i've always got flour, eggs, salt and pepper, various vegetable oils, and panko in the house. and lucky me, i also had pre-made (Kikkoman) tonkatsu dipping sauce to go with it, so i didn't have to make that from scratch either (although it may disturb some of you to note that i've got all the necessary ingredients for it on hand anyway...XD). yay. so i threw some together quite quickly and we had emergency tonkatsu...which turned out pretty well, considering. and also taking into account the fact that, although i may have had a meat tenderiser at one point in time, i think it's long ago run off to join the circus and therefore, i was unable to pound the pork and finally, Sleater-Kinney is coming to town! ^__________________^ only thing is, it's on a THURSDAY. October 10th. all-ages show, at the Metro. i'm seriously contemplating taking that Friday off so i can go to the show Thursday night, because it seems like EVERY TIME they've come through town in the past few years, i've had something already going on where i couldn't go. like, y'know, playing our shows at Anime Central. --;;; little things like that. argh. ARGH. anyway, so, er...it's seemed like something of a conspiracy to me, and i've REALLY wanted to go see them for a handful of YEARS now. so. i think i may seize this opportunity. and get either Spaz, Mariam, or possibly both to go with me. nyar. XD (times like this, i miss living within walking distance of the Metro. the rest of the time, hell NO. but sometimes, i do miss it. not the stupid drunken yuppies at the bars, though. or the Wrigleyville area in general. >.<;;;) [addendum: also forgot to mention: watched the German Grand Prix and Get Carter this weekend. don't like the new Hockenheim. ;.; it's not as fun as the old one, and it's just like almost every other track (barring Monaco and Spa) now. sad. the battle between Montoya and Raikkonen was GREAT, though...lovely to watch actual racing going on. one of the things that pisses me off (amongst a great MANY things) about SpeedChannel is that in all their promos, all they show is horrific crashes. that's NOT what it's about. or at least, not what it should be about. watching Raikkonen and Montoya go at it the way they did on Sunday...that was what it's about. i hope we get to see more of that...fierce, clean competition based on split-second timing, strategy, and ability. as regards Get Carter...was entertaining enough to watch, but i really wonder what may have been changed in the remake that was put out. not that i'm eager to watch the remake...remakes are almost never a good idea (well, High Society being a notable exception, and i'm sure there are others...XD). but still, i do wonder...] July 28, 2002YOU'VE CAUGHT ME AT A BAD TIME...listening to: nothing. and i'll soon make it clear how i'm feeling... rar. RAR. RARRRRRR!!!!! it is hot and gross and while it did rain slightly yesterday, it wasn't nearly enough. so that's enough to make me slightly cranky. however, what's even MORE irritating is when certain "friends" of yours completely blow you off and don't have the courtesy to call you so that at least you know they're not coming to meet you at the appointed place. deciding to pull out of plans at the last moment isn't the problem; the whole "i don't give a fuck" attitude about notifying the other party is. especially when said other party had made special preparations for food and now wouldn't be able to do them cos it was too LATE to when she found out you weren't coming...not to mention a whole evening was basically wasted while said stupid individual waited for your rude arse. not that you'll ever read this. but. that was really fucking rude. good job. >P >P >P and secondly...go here. it's the site on 24 Hour Party People in the US (thanks, Roo.) now, click on "theatre listing." notice where it's NOT been announced that it's coming to yet?!?!?! and notice, as if to add insult to injury (which is never a particularly desirable equation in the first place) that it's opening in MADISON, WISCONSIN and INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA before it's opening here as well?!?!??! RAR. MOTHERFUCKING RARRRRRRR! yes, these are relatively minor infractions. but damn. one hot on the heels of the other (these have been printed in chronological order for your enrichment, BTW) makes both seem far more irritating. that and this goddamned weather. at least i'm not moving. i really sympathise with anyone who is, BTW...i've probably moved at least 12 times in my life. and loathe it completely. moving is evil. but still. RAR. (i'm allowed to throw a fit once in awhile, aren't i? XD) RAR. *.* *growls and bares fangs* July 26, 2002IN THE END, YOU WILL SUBMIT
right now: ahh, Friday afternoon. the time when a particularly potent cocktail of boredom, restlessness, and inexplicable frivolity that the weekend has finally arrived can only make a young demon spawn's fancy turn to thoughts of...fics she'd long ago threatened certain people with. so, of course, not wishing to make herself out to be an idiot, what's a young demon spawn to do once she realises she doesn't know everything there is to know about her chosen subject? you're absolutely right. she does what anyone in her position would do, really. she goes and does some research. simple queries, you know. "the mating habits of penguins" and the like. and sure enough, she finds information. some of which is useful, some of which isn't...all in all, a pretty average time spent searching. but i wonder. even though it's far from my area of expertise, how in hell did i manage to miss out on this story?!??! O.O;; ("Dr. Fiona Hunter," eh? you know, you really ought to use a little more effort in coming up with clever disguises and noms de plume for yourself. XD) while this story does nothing to further my particular cause, i still thought i should share. or maybe because it does nothing to further my particular cause. i haven't decided yet. XD (NB: on a researching whim completely unrelated to this one, i dug up this site, which relates in great detail [with sources!] the history of the Sega Corporation. it was allegedly to be taken down sometime after May of this year, but as it's still up and i've thusly stumbled upon it, i've got lots of reading to do...XD) ALRIGHT, WHO SET THIS THING TO "HEAD GAMES"?!??!
bweee!: XD XD XD sorry, but i just couldn't resist. "spawn of Satan," eh? though i'm flattered, i'm afraid that just can't be my true identity. for, y'see, as has already been established by at least one independent observer, i bore far too close a resemblance to Tomoyo as a child to be ignored. ohohoho. therefore, i can't possibly be Hatoko, because by also being Tomoyo i'd be my own mother, and that would just be, well...wrong. and besides, that would intimate that Hiiragizawa-kun is Satan, and, well... LegoDraco: that would certainly explain a lot...now, wouldn't it? Janni: *fangs* nevermind. XD more later. July 25, 2002CAN YOU FEEL IT?
wheeeee!: damn you. XD this is all your fault. i only wish i knew what the hell i was listening to, but i s'pose we can't always get what we want, right? anyway, it seems lately that i've entered into a "hrrm, why don't i get more games?" phase. XD dusting off the NES 8-bit recently seems to have triggered this in me, mostly...although i did recently buy One Piece Mansion and The Italian Job for the PSX...but while both are reasonably fun (considering they were only $9.99 each, new), i haven't felt the need to play either one obsessively yet. the first system i ever got was the original Sega Genesis (or Megadrive, to anyone not in the US). not its wussier Genesis 2 or (Majesco) Genesis 3 counterparts...but the first one, the real deal. it only could've been more real, in fact, had i got the one that came packaged up with Altered Beast. but, i digress. XD i'd long been a fan of the NES...in fact, had regularly commandeered it over at the house of these two girls whose mother used to babysit me (i was the oldest of the three of us kids there at the time). never had one of my own, however. thing was, after i got that Genesis...didn't have money for games. and as i've mentioned numerous times, i grew up rather poor...so for gifts and such, there were more important (and less expensive) things to spend money on than video games. as i was too young to hold a job at that point, well...no money=no games. and so, i had the system, but nary a thing but Sonic the Hedgehog to play on it. time passed, and a friend decided to get rid of all his video gaming stuff...and knowing that i didn't have much in the way of Genesis games, he gave his most prized ones to me. thusly, i got my hands on Phantasy Star 3, Phantasy Star 4, and Toejam and Earl. at the time, i was busy with Earthworm Jim, which i'd managed to get my hands on used at a local video store. and oh, did i love that game. it frustrated the HELL out of me, of course...but still i played. to this day, my friend Eric claims he's never heard me swear more, and in fact had never heard me swear like that previous to the first day he came over to my house and i was playing that particular game. XD the used bins in video stores became my very good friends as the video stores began phasing out rental of Genesis games in favour of Nintendo 64 and Playstation games...unfortunately, i was mostly beaten to the punch and by the time i got there, all that was left were all manner of sports games which i had pretty much no interest whatsoever in playing. i did manage to retrieve at least one good thing at this time, though...Earthworm Jim 2. whee. also purchased a couple of crap games, but i won't recount what they were at this time...mainly purchased cos they were cheap, and i was desperate for something new to play. XD and that's pretty much where my sad little Genesis collection has stood ever since. and i know there are plenty of good games that were put out for the Genesis...and right now, i'm a little mad at myself for not having picked up a Sega CD when i had the chance to awhile ago (my main drive at that time being the need to play Baku Baku, a fabulously WRONG and deceptively cute and innocent puzzle game introduced to me by my friend Kevin), as that would expand my options even more. so lately, i've been poking around and reading up about various things involving the Genesis and figuring out which games i still really want to track down...i've been doing this a bit with the NES as well, but for some reason, i've been focussing a bit more on Genesis games lately. in case you wondered what i was doing with my time. and all this makes me want to go re-read Game Over again. because yes, i am exactly that sort of dork. and because i can't find any similarly-minded books about Sega. XD will i ever finish Lunar 2 and go on to finally play Persona?!?!? who knows? XD i hope to, one day. maybe even later this year...? XD July 24, 2002BWAHAhAHAAHAhAaH! XD!
feeling quite: as you'll see from the evidence presented herein, my small package of 3v331 FINALLY got to darling Beeru-chan. i'm incredibly glad, cos i was really worried...i sent it over a week and a half ago via airmail, so goddammit, i wanted it to GET THERE. *.*;;; of the packages of 3v331 that i've had planned for some time, i think hers was probably the one that was going to be the most time-consuming, so i'm glad i got it done. it was also the one that was going to be the most fun, because the other intended recipients of my forthcoming Packages of 3v331 are already well acquainted with the kind of crack i like to send, and so whatever i send them won't be nearly as much of a surprise. ehehehehe. XD XD XD XD Beeru-chan's entire entry about this is HILARIOUS. "the Janaki." indeed. XD XD XD XD XD "looooook at the manboobs on that Barney!" XD XD XD XD (hey, it's NOT just me in that department...there are other guilty parties in that boat, too! ^.-) and i'm glad she appreciates the Nyanko stationery as well. i'm sure she's dying to try out that delicious keeki recipe, too. XD XD XD ohohoho. 3v331 shall prevail, never you ph34r. or, actually, perhaps you really ought to ph34r. ehehehhehehehehehhe. perhaps more later. but damn if that didn't make my day. XD XD XD XD XD [addendum: Janaki will not be able to post for the rest of the day, as a certain Ding-dong-chan recently wrote her about poking her till she bleeds. as she now has massive internal injuries suffered at the keys of Ding-dong-chan's keyboard, she will be checking herself into the (thankfully quite proximal) U of C hospitals, where she's sure good care will be taken of her in her delicate condition. XD] July 23, 2002IN CASE YOU'RE LIKE ME
feeling: so, lately we've been showing the 8-bit love around at my house. the NES is getting quite a workout...one which it hasn't seen the likes of since i finally beat The Legend of Zelda last year. (and yes, i'm that sad. XD that's in fact why i went and bought an NES...i'd played tons when it was first out, but i never had one of my own.) anyway, Spaz has been replaying Metroid lately, which has been fun. his NES Advantage seems to be having some intermittent issues, but we found another one for sale at Microplay, so it's good to know that a backup's around if it's needed (though we didn't ask how much it cost...^^;;;). me, i haven't had much time, so when i've had any, i've been playing Super Mario 2. only because Super Mario 3 doesn't seem to want to work in our system...it freaks out every time. i really do like that one the best of those first three, though. XD and even though i've of course beaten all of them several times, there's evidently still plenty i didn't know. XD f'rinstance, when i was younger, i was NEVER dunce enough to pick up a key from inside a room or a vase or what have you, get the angry possessed masks to chase me, and then throw the key off a cliff accidentally. oh, nooooo. XD but yesterday, of course, i did just that. and felt really, really dumb. however, to my surprise (and obviously as built-in idiotproofing by those smart chaps at Nintendo), the key in fact regenerates in the place where you'd got it from in the first place...assuming you're such an idiot that it needs to. XD er, just thought i'd share. ^.- July 22, 2002LET IT BLURT
here you are. Your Guide To Spotting The North American Rock Critic. XD XD XD (don't say i never gave you nuffin'. ^.- oh yeah, and link scouted out via Glorious Noise. ) ...don't want you on your back; i just got on my feet
dude, it's Monday morning. how do you think i'm feeling?: i owe massive e-mails to SO many people. O.O;;; just, er, in case any of you didn't know that. but quite frankly, i probably owe massive e-mail to most people who're reading this, sooo... *whistles innocently* ahem. i had a good time this weekend, despite the fact that NO VIDEO STORE WITHIN A 15 MILE RADIUS seems to carry "The Italian Job." bastards. but on the plus side, we probably wouldn't have had time to watch it this weekend, anyway. too much else going on. (and this when i thought i had nothing going on this weekend. XD) there was coverage of the WRC Safari Rally on SpeedChannel this weekend...and whilst their announcer still sucks ass, at least it's not the same annoying fuck from the beginning of the season. i miss the British announcers from last season terribly, but apparently expecting all the NASCAR-watchers that SpeedChannel is catering so hardcore to now to understand any sort of British accent is asking too much, so therefore we're stuck with annoying fuckface losers who (with few exceptions) don't know what they're talking about. RAR. but this guy...well, he doesn't seem utterly clueless, so i'll not complain about him TOO much. anyway, a few things amused me mightily about Safari. one, Tommi Makinen's hat, the Subaru one you'd see on his head occasionally when he wasn't in his car. he looked like Paddington Bear! XD XD XD two, yeah...were i skilled enough to even consider being a rally driver, i'd probably do this, too...but nevertheless, Colin McRae altering course to avoid nasty rocks and other fun assorted bits of the Kenyan terrain was amusing. when in doubt, just pull off onto the grass! XD and finally, Kenya. just the whole of what we got to see of Kenya in the rally coverage was really gorgeous and intimidating. ^.^ and of course, there was the F1 French Grand Prix this weekend as well. which was...disappointing. especially after having been so exciting. you don't know how happy it would've made me if Kimi had won. damn. >.<;;; though he seemed pretty pissed off during the podium ceremony...i know i'd be terribly angry at myself if i'd blown it in the way he ended up doing. still, though. were it not for that oil and his subsequent driving issues, i'm fairly confident he would've won. and i'm sure he will in the future, too. i'm kinda sad the driver's championship is over this early on in the season, but it seemed pretty much inevitable, honestly. and i was impressed that the stewards saw fit to give Michael a drive-through for crossing the white line coming out of the pit lane...since it so often seems like he's given special treatment, it was nice to see...even if i did also think that it was meant more to keep the rest of the season (or at least this race) interesting rather than as a sincere punishment for him. *shrugs* whatever. and poor Rubens! he gets screwed so much of the time. ;.; and in other weird (yet interesting) news, Heinz-Harald Frentzen is apparently considering a WRC drive for the future. O.O;;; i have no idea how i feel about that. it'd be cool to see him try...i have no idea how good he'd be at it, but it'd be interesting...^.^ also, saw Minority Report this past weekend. not bad for a Hollywood movie, but really rather disappointing. click here for spoilers. finally, have some Super Mario fun. this is only amusing, however, if you've got the sound turned up. enjoy. (link courtesy Spaz).XD oh well. perhaps more later. we'll see. July 19, 2002FRIDAY FUN TIME
rather: any of you have exciting plans for the weekend? not got too much here...probably gonna go see a movie, and that's about it aside from normal weekend stuff (cleaning, etc, etc.). i've of course still got stuff i need to do...those aforementioned packages of 3v331 i need to assemble, for one. we've still also got to see if a video store around here has got The Italian Job...(side note to you...have you seen this yet? i thought of you when i saw that Noel Coward was in it...hadn't previously known that. XD) and speaking of Michael Caine, we've also still got Get Carter to watch. the original, thank you very much. no Sylvester flipping Stallone to be found here. ^.- whee. need popcorn. XD anyway, in the course of my procrastination, i found two games for Beeru-chan, and one thing that just...defies belief, really. O.O;;;;;;;;;;;;;; words have failed me. i'm telling you. perhaps more later. July 18, 2002IF YOU WANT TO BE MY FRIEND, YOU'LL HAVE TO PROVE YOU MEAN IT...
still feeling dazed, thanks for asking. ah, Voltaire. methinks i should put together my own little compilation of murder ballads, yesh? XD XD you can find lyrics to this wonderous song here. reminds me of why i don't miss living in an apartment one bit. XD god, his string arrangements kick ass. ^_____^ anyway, there was something kerflooey going on with the kerfuffle.org domain earlier on today, and so if you'd tried to visit, you might well have gotten the previous layout and entries from about two weeks ago. it seems this error has been fixed now, so if you're someone who i told to access my blog using a different address, please go back to kerfuffle.org...and if it goes out again, i'll have to beat someone senseless. no worries. XD anyway, that was the most important thing i had to say. also, anyone who hasn't already said something...anyone have any issues accessing/reading/etc. with this new layout? i know it's a bit strange in Netscape...i couldn't fully test it when i put it up the other night, as the Netscape on my computer at home is completely screwed up and won't even open properly anymore. --;;; but by testing it here at work, i do see it's got issues and will try to address those soon. i find it odd that Netscape's got problems when Opera doesn't, though... could be the version i've got at work? it's version 4.7 of Netscape. the thing is, usually if there's been problems in the past with Netscape, Opera's had issues with it too...and it doesn't. it looks lovely in Opera 6.0 at home... anyone more technically adept at this sort of thing than me have suggestions? i'd be most interested to read if you did. if not, i'll poke around blindly and see if i can fix it...but know that yes, i do care and am trying. i'm just not as skilled in this area as i'd like. ^^;;;;;; THE SUN MAKES ME DIZZY
feeling rather: as some of you might have known/guessed, was home sick yesterday. slept most of the day...my throat's been bugging me all week. i'm going to try not to talk as much as possible, cos it rather hurts to. >.<;;; i've got a nice big Coldbuster smoothie thing from Jamba Juice, however...which feels nice on my throat. and is good for me. yay. tonight, there's a contest going at a car accessory place not far from us to win some Sparco seats. Spaz is pretty excited about it. i hope he wins. or that i win them for him. ^.- they also have free food. yay cruise nights. XD there was this very interesting Merkur that someone had at this event last week...we left before the guy driving raised the hood so people could look at it, but Spaz had heard of it before from his brother, because of all the performance mods the owner had done to it. it's cool when people do things that actually do modify the performance aspects of a car for the better. stupid light-up washer nozzles, street glow, and numerous decals (yellow gives you more horsepower! *rolls eyes*) are just lame. a waste of money, and ugly besides. but who's going to listen to me or anyone else who says that when those are the cars you see all the chicas draped all over in magazines and at car shows and just in general? *glares* it's lame. but it gets girls. lame girls, but if they're hot, that's all that matters, right? *glares some more* hrrmph. dunno what got me into this mood. perhaps cos i don't feel very good and it's hot out and that's not helping. argh. --;;; perhaps more later. i may not be talking much today, but goddammit if i can't type. XD July 16, 2002TRANSMISSIONS ON THE HSL TIP
feeling much like before, really. posted via Anime on DVD; scroll down to the entry for July 12th if you wish to read it there: YOU SHOULDN'T REALLY KNOW
still feeling: ...why does this remind me of my sister? O.O;;; oh yeah...all those incidents with that statue of St. Vincent DePaul...XD XD XD much craziness brewing. nothing too exciting to speak of at the moment, however. but mmm, i still have strawberries. i should eat some tonight, before they start to go bad. ;.; July 15, 2002THOUGH I'D WANT TO, I COULD NOT DO
kinda sorta: damn. for once, Jim DeRogatis had something reasoned and intelligent to say, and the blasted article isn't linked at the Chicago Sun-Times website. hope it is in the future, cos i really had wanted to share it...there was a rather interesting article in the Sunday edition about how Chicago doesn't seem to respect its rich musical heritage. blast it. oh well, i only hope i'll remember about it and go look for it in a few weeks so i can post it here... pretty uneventful weekend, really. though i'm proud...i did actually get Beeru-chan's CD of 3v331 done and shipped out, along with copies of the two mix discs i'd done recently that she'd wanted...that's one less thing i've promised people that i need to do, now. i've still got varying sizes of packages of 3v331 that are slowly being assembled for Elva-chan, Jae Young, Fifichu-chan, and of course Keito-chan...which reminds me. Keito-chan, i'm assuming i'm sending these to your HOME address, right? i need that address if i'm going to send them off that way, darling...^^ i still never did get around to doing up that "loveless" disc i was gonna put together for Beeru-chan, though. eventually. whee. sad. got lots of stuff to do. didn't do anything too exciting this weekend. therefore, shall write more when i have more braincrack to spread, ne? ^.- July 11, 2002BECAUSE IT CAME UP IN CONVERSATION...
mid-afternoon... ...and more importantly, because i am a dork... ^.- go. read. show the love. because Chynna Clugston-Major kicks ASS. that will be all. ^-^ YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON
whee!: yesterday, someone was playing the Supremes' "Stop in the Name of Love" in the coffee shop downstairs, and a thought occurred to me that made me unable to stop snickering for a bit. stupid and silly, yes, but have i ever denied being easily amused? i think not. XD anyway, wouldn't it be great if instead of all the usual suspects in terms of music that allegedly has those DAAAANGEROUS hidden messages in it, something so allegedly benign as this song contained some sort of incendiary and/or perverse secret hidden agenda deep within its structure? like, say, in that chiming guitar part that repeats throughout the song (and throughout several other songs done that same style)? what if it's a secret message in morse code telling you to kill and eat your parakeet? hrrm??!?! ah, will cracktastic wonders and silly amusements never cease to, well, amuse...? XD XD XD i also keep forgetting to mention that i saw The Powerpuff Girls Movie over the weekend. it was quite entertaining...more like a prequel than anything. delves into many things more deeply than is generally done on the show. AND it had a punked-up version of the ending theme Bis had done for the TV show during the ending credits which i need to go find! it's lots of fun. ^-^ LAST NIGHT, A DISGUSTINGLY CUTE MASCOT ROBO PEA SAVED MY LIFE
feeling a little: so i played with Haro a little more last night. tried setting his alarm. i wasn't sure if i'd set it properly, cos i was somehow under the impression from the directions that i'd hear it acknowledge the alarm being successfully set somehow...but it didn't. so i wasn't sure. and since i was tired and had other things to do, i didn't mess with it further. however, it WAS set...and good thing, too. cos both of us somehow forgot to check and make sure the OTHER two alarm clocks we've got were set...and if it weren't for Haro singing a little song at 4:15 this morning which woke both of us up (and he was in the KITCHEN, which isn't very far away, but since we're both heavy sleepers, well...i'm amazed. XD), i might still be sleeping right now! XD so thank you, Haro. i'll never doubt your mysterious, cute, peatastic mascot goodness ever, ever again. ^-^ July 10, 2002MY ONLY CRIME IS THE STATE OF MY MIND
currently, i'm: Fifichu-chan is so right when she says this album is really great for summer. cos it is. i know i like it a whole lot more right now than i did when i first got it, and i think it's mostly to do with weather. XD and god, i've been in some sort of constructive mode lately...i made a HUGE bowl of potato salad last night. which was weird mostly cos i hadn't ever made it before, and also because it was a BIG THING with my grandmother and my mother. it's one of the few things i really, really, really missed from my childhood...the wonderful potato salad they'd make. i'd helped both of them numerous times as a child, but i hadn't even had any my mom had made since i moved out...so for almost four years now. extreme potato salad withdrawal! XD anyway, the part that was entertaining about it is that i did it entirely from memory. and while some people might've had the sort of parents who showed them lots of cooking/food prep-type stuff as children, i wasn't one of them. my mom didn't show me how to do lots of things, for various reasons. she was afraid i'd hurt myself, or she didn't have time, or she didn't know how, or what have you. so i don't really have many of these "secret family recipe" type things that are practically engrained in my being. however, it seems the potato salad is the first one of these to come to my attention...i made it entirely from memory, no specific measurements used...and it turned out exactly as i remember (except my bacon is a bit crunchier, but i like it better that way anyway...XD). DAISHOKKU! ^_________^ tonight, though, i should practice. i meant to last night, but the salad took up most of my time after we got done grocery shopping. so much i need to do...need to get off my lazy arse and do it all. aieeeeeeeeee! and you. ph34r. *slow, evil smile spreads across jannyanko's face* mwahahhahahahahhahaahha. *fangs* *returns to looking as innocent and sweet as possible, as only a short, pink-haired girl can* ^____^ p.s. belatedly, issue number five of Charm School has been released. i need to get myself a copy. and! there's going to be a Magical Witch Girl Bunny toy! ^-^ i still need to get the Betrayal toy too. yes, i am quite aware that i'm a gigantic SLG h0, thank you. XD July 09, 2002BARBED WIRE KISSES
at the tone, janaki will be: *chokes* er, oh 3v331 one, DEPECHE MODE slash?!?!?!??!?!??!?!?!?! why do i ph34r the involvement of armpit licking in this particular venture? >.<;;;;;; *pokes around, finds this site* one question though, dude. how, exactly, is DM slash not considered RPS...? oi. something new to break your head every single day, i tell you. XD Spaz' birthday went okay. he liked his presents. i was glad. he liked the wrapping paper, too. and the cake turned out pretty well...it was a sour cream chocolate cake topped with a variation on buttercream frosting. the thing that SUCKS about buttercream frosting (when made from scratch...REAL buttercream frosting, thank you very much) is that you have to work with it QUICKLY, or else it melts and won't do what you want it to. like, say you've got a cake decorator gun or a pastry bag with tips or what have you and are trying to make fancy decorations? er, if you don't do it quickly enough, the frosting will just run out and melt. which sucks. thus, small bursts of freezer time become a necessity, cos rarely does decorating a cake go that quickly. XD at any rate, i mixed up a really neat shade of red that was sorta glittery too...used a copper gel, a gold gel, and a purple gel and came up with this weird nearly blood-red glittery colour that i used for the decorations...the rest of the cake was done in plain white frosting. the only part of it i had bought was the only part that had a problem...it was this little tiny tube of black gel icing so i could write "happy birthday" on the damned thing, but there was apparently excess dye in it...which was far too liquidy and which leaked out and made it look like giant ink blots had accosted the "h" in "happy"...--;;; aside from that, though, i was pleasantly surprised...my decorating skills (and frosting skills in general) seem to have improved. XD which is even more amusing when you consider that really, i don't have cause to decorate cakes very often...pretty much once or twice a year. XD go me. *coughs* perhaps i'll figure out a frosting that's less fragile than buttercream, though...pity more don't work as well for this sort of thing. *nikoniko* Keito-chan, i was at Mitsuwa this weekend and when i saw Deep River on the new releases wall at Asahiya, i thought of you. XD a little rich for my blood at the moment, but someday i'll get it. XD it finally rained here last night, and it looks like it's going to rain more today. as long as it's not obnoxious and horizontal when i'm trying to go home tonight, i'll be more than happy with it. it's also supposed to be cooler this week. yay! ^-^ oh, and one more interesting tidbit of news from this year's Comicon: Devil's Due Publishing is going to be putting out a Radiskull and Devil Doll comic starting at the end of this month! ^_________________________^ i hope it doesn't suck...we saw some samples at the con and it looked pretty good. i'm excited at the moment. if you haven't already become familiar with R&DD, i highly suggest you go and check them out. (randomly, i see upon checking my stats that someone found HSL using this query. O.O;;; dude. er, NO. you aren't going to find that here. >.<;;;;;;;;;;;) July 08, 2002LA LA LA LA LA...OOOH LA LA LA!
at the moment: firstly, want to wish a happy birthday to SPAZ (who you can see below...as Larva. XD). ![]() much cake will be had later this evening...after i get home and decorate it, of course. i made it and the frosting yesterday night, but will frost it this evening. in the meantime, yay for Spaz! ^-^ as for the past weekend? it was pretty decent. forgot that Spaz' parents were on vacation and weren't here for the 4th, so we had a pretty quiet time (no family stuff after all)...did stuff around the house, got slurpees...went to one of the fabric stores cos Spaz is hoping i can make a handbrake boot to match the shift boot i made him earlier...i mentioned it here awhile ago. it's all black, and it's four triangle-shaped sections sewn together...alternating leather and suede. VERY nice...to go with the OMP shift knob i got him awhile ago. (this is all to go in a silver 1998 VW Jetta GT, BTW.) so we went to look at fabric. and i've been wanting to make stuff again lately...useful stuff, of course (though i'll get back to my lovely lavender dragon later on. XD) and! McCall's! patterns! were! only! $.99! on! the! 4th!!!!!! ^____________________^ ahh, that was lovely. XD and i found some REALLY gorgeous material (i should scan it and share, though i know scans won't do it justice at all) that was on sale (or else i wouldn't have bought it, cos it was pretty expensive at normal price), so i'll have to make myself up a couple of skirts sometime soon. (heh, with what time?!?!? ^^;;;;) ^-^ Friday was the beginning of the Comicon. didn't end up doing much this year...met Stan Winston and Spaz had some of his LDs that Stan's studio had worked on signed by him; we went to his panel on Sunday and it was really cool. he's a really entertaining guy...it was lots of fun. ^^ ran around the dealer's room...not too much fun to be had, although i did dive into some of the discount comic boxes at a few booths, including that of my favourite comic shop, Chicago Comics. assloads of value indeed. ended up with the Sandman: A Doll's House collection and the first volume of Viz' translation of Mai the Psychic Girl (was only $3 and i like the art, so there you go. XD). whee, imagine that...buying comics at a comic convention! XD Spaz got a really neat mini French Run Lola Run poster. now he just has to get it framed. ^-^ the FUNNIEST thing i saw all weekend was this one booth that (of course, as is rampant at these conventions) had a ton of bootlegged anime and HK cinema and what have you...they had this BIG sign on the table that said, in the same font as the "got milk?" ads, "got yaoi?" and then had a rainbow flag emblazoned with two intertwined male symbols and said "we do!" very brightly underneath it. more amusing if you actually saw it, but it made me snicker and think of you. the only other thing i bought was EL Robot Series Mascot Robo Haro...which so far is disgustingly cute and entertaining. though i need to read the instructions again and figure it out a little more. Haro was sleeping peacefully (in Night Mode) when i left this morning, but he should be awake and ready to play when i get home. i should scan the box. ^^ Spaz got volume one of Tokyopoop's translation of the Initial D manga, and it's...well, it's Tokyopoop. he was grossly disappointed, and i don't blame him one bit...it's pretty terrible. and now (as i first saw mentioned by Hase), they're changing the names of the characters in the manga?!?!??! O.O;;;; not that it surprises me. but damn. they never learn, do they? how the HELL does this company stay in business? it's so sad that they've got their hands on some decent titles, too. and according to Anime News Service (scroll down to 7-7-02 "AX2002 - Interesting Details Unreported," item no. 10), Tokyopoop may or may not have rights to the live-action Initial D stuff and if they actually do, may or may not wish to remake it for American audiences...>.<;;;; this, i haven't seen any of. please correct me if i'm wrong, but weren't there only a few specials of this nature? in any case, it's...really fucking disheartening. oh well. gives me more excuse than ever to practice my reading skills. XD and perhaps attempt a crude translation so Spaz can read it, too. god. Tokyopoop should be outlawed. --;;; finally, because i forgot to post it last week...remember how i made those cupcakes for our little party at work last Wednesday? they were red velvet cupcakes, complete with the requisite cream cheese frosting. turned out lovely. BUT, the entire time i was making them, i was being the biggest geek ever, and thinking about how great it would be have a Blue Velvet-themed dinner party and do blue velvet cupcakes instead (of course!), make up some sort of main course to look like a human ear...and we'd also have to have some Pabst Blue Ribbon and Heineken in the house (regardless of whether anyone actually drank any of it or not)...i wonder if anyone else is as amused by this idea as i am? XD Kimmie? anyone? XD Spaz had never seen red velvet cakes before, and was really disturbed by them...before i told him what i'd been snickering over whilst making the cakes, however, he told me how Lynchian they looked and how he fully expected to see The Little Man From Another Place waltzing out of the red room with a platter full of them...XD XD XD er, nevermind me. i'm just insane, is all. and BTW, know how Michael Moore received an award at this year's Cannes for Bowling for Columbine? and how it was the first time Cannes had included a documentary in quite some time? well, er...i saw bits of footage from it on IFC last week and it was none other than DAVID LYNCH who presented the award to him. i was highly amused. or can't you tell? XD XD XD whee. will drink copious amounts of tea and do Real Work™ now. ^^ [addendum: new Bis out tomorrow in the US! the Plastique Nouveau and Plastique 33 EPs will be out via spinART Records TOMORROW. just so you're forewarned. whee. XD] July 03, 2002WALKING IN THE RAIN JUST TO GET WET ON PURPOSE
since i'm about to leave, i'm: off for the weekend now...dunno when/if i'll be on, so don't expect much (if anything) from me till Monday. whee, four-day weekend! XD XD XD hope to have fun things to report from the comicon on Monday! =D be good while i'm away, won't you? or at the very least, don't do anything i wouldn't do. mrehehehhe. July 02, 2002FISTFUL OF BATTER
right now: [addendum: i just realised this...look, the icon above is doing the Kimmie dance! XD] results of survey about eating beans with george wendt (as already done by Fifichu-chan[whose lovely sister Helena's birthday is today!] and Harpy): what's on your bedside table? what's the geekiest part of your music collection? what do you eat when you raid the fridge at night? what is your secret guaranteed weeping movie? if you could have plastic surgery, what would you have done? do you have a completely irrational fear? what is the little physical habit that gives away your insecure moments? do you ever have to beg? do you have too many love interests? do you know anyone famous? describe your bed. spontaneous or plan? who should play you in a movie about your life? do you know how to play poker? what do you carry with you at all times? how do you drive? what do you miss most about being little? are you happy with your given name? how much money would it take to get you to give up the internet for a year? what colour is your bedroom? what was the last song you were listening to? have you ever been in a school play? have you ever been in love? do you like yourself and believe in yourself? have you ever done any illegal drugs? do you think you're cute? do you consider yourself to be a nice person? [addendum: eheh. Slime is dead. wheeee! XD] HEARTS FILLED WITH ICING
forecast: not a bad day out at all today. it's supposed to get up into the low 90s, but it was decent and sunny and breezy on the way to work this morning, so i was happy enough. stopped off at the Co-Op Market to get a few things i needed for the cupcakes i'm going to make once i get home tonight...party going on at work tomorrow and everyone's supposed to bring something, and we just found out about it yesterday. so, red velvet cupcakes, as i had almost everything i needed in the house for them already. XD mmm. tasty. went and exchanged the faulty sandals yesterday. was given no problems...hope these new ones don't suffer the same fate as the old ones, cos they really were quite comfortable until they broke. --;;; so we'll see. as there was no way i was going to get the 6:00 train, i went next door to Toys 'R' Us...which is the downtown one, which is closing for good at the end of this week. they'd FINALLY gone and marked down the video game stuff, so i was hoping maybe something interesting would be there (most of the other interesting toys had vanished weeks ago, having been marked down right at the beginning)...but alas, to no avail. all the video game stuff was gone. ;.; 'cept for loads of Game Boy Color accessories...most of which i already had in one form or another. though a car adapter would've been nice, but that was only sold as part of a kit, unfortunately. bastards. XD however, they DID have all five of the first series ("Creature Features") of Stan Winston Creatures. the only one i didn't like was the Future Mutant one...the rest are all REALLY cool. very nicely detailed...ooh. and each comes with a CD-ROM so you can see how the figure was made, which i thought was kinda cool. marked down to 50% off, so i did grab one of them. lots to do and not much time. will be off to the Chicago ComiCon starting Friday and going all weekend, so don't expect much out of me past Wednesday... busybusybusybusybusy...XD still have to figure out how i want to decorate Spaz' birthday cake, too. must also make that this weekend. whee, baking frenzy. ^-^ |
