March 18, 2004cry for help...has anyone got any advice (apart from installing the upgrade to MT 2.661, which i already did) for something to prevent the incessant stupidity and annoyance that is comment spamming? is this only an MT phenomenon? i'm getting tons and tons of it, and of course i can ban IP addresses until the world ends and it doesn't really make that great of a dent in things, for a variety of reasons. a pox on you if you're a stupid, vile comment-spammer. and also a plague on your house. and if it's all automated, then i redirect my curses toward whoever came up with this brilliant scheme in the first place. it's really just obnoxious, and you bloody well know it. though of course i'm quite sure you don't care. i'd still stick a fork in your stupid, obnoxious eyeballs if ever i met you, though. keep that wellin mind. *growls* suggestions are welcome and appreciated. unless of course they're spam, in which case...er, yeah. >E~~~~~~ Comments
I like this site! Posted by: billie at May 12, 2006 04:45 AMFi: if you haven't already, check your e-mail. XD Meril: hrrm. those are things to consider if the measure i've just taken doesn't work. i'm trying out MT-Blacklist and seeing if that helps. hopefully it will---occasionally i've gotten comments on really old posts that have actually been comments. and useful ones at that, not spammishness. so i hope i don't end up having to take that step, but if i do, i do...thanks for the suggestions! ^^ Posted by: janni at March 21, 2004 02:58 PMI've made my archives unsearchable with my robots.txt file, and turn off commenting once the post scrolls off the front page. I haven't received a single comment spam. I've been doing this for a while, though, even before the comment spamming started; I was getting too many little girls searching Google and thinking I had Draco Malfoy's email address. Posted by: Meril at March 21, 2004 12:33 AMoooh, when you find out, let me know. it seems like a lot of people are turning comments off after a certain amount of time to counteract this.
