Sony's w.ear headphones are quite nice. especially now that it seems their prices have come down to a more reasonable level. they're open and airy, and yet the music sounds great and is quite easy to hear over people/road noise/etc. if you turn the volume up. but since they're so open and airy, and since you can hear the outside world perfectly fine while wearing them (provided you've attenuated your levels correctly), they can also be worn while biking. it's not something i'd suggest doing on busy streets or while in a hurry to get somewhere, but in quiet, secluded areas, it's quite nice. did so on the way home, in fact---and in doing so, became quite possibly the biggest dork ever. what was i listening to, you ask? why, none other than Card Captor Sakura, Original Soundtrack Number Two. XDXDXD you know what this means, don't you? i SO need to make a summer biking comp. (and it is SO gonna have the Pocket Monsters bicycle music on it---game boy version, of course. XDXDXD) Comments
i found them for $20 at a few places around here. one store still wants $40 for them, which was high even when they were new, but i think people are marking them down cos Scammy Sony has got a new line of similarly-designed-yet-just-slightly-different phones out now. which are $30 most places. and which are pretty irritating, because it's just the aesthetics that are different; if you flip the packs over and look at the actual specs, both these w.ear ones and the newer ones are almost identical. the minor (eensy!) differences aren't worth plunking down an extra $10---unless you really adore the design, in which case by all means. i like the design of the older ones better, myself---new ones look kinda clunky and badly-put-together, a bit like Pontiacs...XD Posted by: janni at June 30, 2003 01:43 PMonce again great minds think alike, i've been looking at those headphones for a wihle! if the price has dropped i'll pick up a pair...though i'm poor. again. argh. Posted by: fiona at June 30, 2003 11:24 AMhrrm, shall have to check. yep, i find that annoying too---hearing other people's music really loud. although sometimes it's funny when you realise you know what they're listening to---depending on what it is, of course. what you really want are noise-cancelling headphones, i should think---but they get kinda expensive. they do what they say, though---a good pair should cancel noise from the outside world getting in, and the noise you're channeling into your ears getting into the outside world. ^^ Posted by: janni at June 28, 2003 10:23 PMcan you hear the music from the outside? i'm in desperate need for new ear/headphones, but i can't stand it when i can hear other people's music, so i've always stuck with those things you jam in your ears. but i've found that they get jacked up pretty quickly so interested in headgear instead.
