NO SURPRISES

*snerk* ehehe.

weekend was full and fairly productive. saw The Ring. enjoyed it pretty well. was surprised to see it scored by Hans Zimmer. while i'd never say "ooh, i really love his stuff!" in quite the same way i might with, oh, say, Angelo Badalamenti, it's nice to know that someone who does a lot of bigger stuff doesn't rip himself off as much as many other people do. that's really irksome. *coughcoughjohnwilliamscoughcough* i rather liked the score, in fact. but i REALLY want to see the original. must procure region-free DVD player. >D

made loads of stuff yesterday. hadn't made bread in awhile, so i made a loaf of buttermilk which turned out pretty yummy. also made another huge pot of cream of broccoli/potato/cheddar soup, which i think i've perfected now. it seems obvious to me now, but in using cornstarch to thicken it, i was always getting nasty lumps that i couldn't quite get out unless i created a huge mess using an electric mixer beater shoved into a drill (XXXD)...and even then, that still didn't remove them all. Spaz suggested i whip out the sifter, and i really don't know why i didn't think of it sooner. soup is PERFECT now. and thick. num. ^^

also made an apron, as i'm sick of slopping powdery substances all over my clothes whilst cooking and baking---a particular problem if one wears a lot of black and/or other dark colours, such as i do. it turned out well (after much yelling and swearing at the sewing machine, of course...XD). also did that brake boot for the '98 Jetta, but while my old problems have been fixed (would take too long to explain), a new one has arisen which i think can be defeated without too much difficulty. still, i'm getting annoyed with myself for this taking so long. it shouldn't be so bloody DIFFICULT. really. >P

had a scary thing happen, too; somehow, i spooked Diesel and she took off tearing around the living room at breakneck speed last night, when Spaz had her out of the cage and running around shortly before we were going to go to sleep. in the course of her mad dash (which was the fastest we've ever seen her), she managed to tear one of her toenails on her front left paw (the one equivalent to where her thumb would be, if she had one) COMPLETELY OFF. >.<;;; well, no---technically, it was still hanging by a thread; it came off in full later on up in the bathroom. but there was quite a bit of blood...it was quite scary. we need to get styptic powder when we go to the pet store to get food for her next time. it did stop; we used cotton balls, pressure, and a bit of hydrogen peroxide (which i felt weird about using, cos i don't want her licking it up, but i didn't want her to get infected, either). she's fine as of this morning, and acting completely normally. will have to keep a close watch on her, though. O.O;;;

it reinforced that she's really the best bunny ever, though---i don't know that any other bunnies i've ever known would be so well-behaved when something like that happens. nor during someone tending to their wounds. she was amazingly well-behaved; she's incredibly good-tempered anyway, but this was still a bit of a surprise to me. Diesel is so sweet. *^^*

am going to start a new project this week; making a hat and hunter's mittens (you know, the kind where it's a mitten with a flap where you can unfasten the top bit via a closure in the palm, flip that bit up, and have what amounts to a fingerless glove inside?) to match the scarf i made Mariam last year. this will be my first foray into knitting in the round. i ph34r greatly, and you should too. but hey, perhaps i'll start making my own damn socks! XD

my stomach and back hurt. can't i go home yet? ;.;

janni likes to cook and bake. a lot. but mostly? she likes to sharpen her knives. because a dull knife is a dangerous knife, and we simply can't have that...

about this layout:
this is acid reflux v. 5.0 of Headphones Save Lives. featuring the ebullient Emperor Chairman Kaga from the fine Fuji TV show Ryori no Tetsujin and seen in the US on the Food Network as Iron Chef. revel in his mastery of bell peppers!
