CYMBALIC CHICAGO!

further to my post below: via Rob, an interesting concept re: tomorrow's events which might intrigue you if you're in the general Chicagoland area:
____________________________________________________
We are forming an all-American, anti-war marching band and you are invited to join in the noise. The plan is to create a classic, parade style band complete with tuba, drums, cymbals, batons, American flags, satin and pom-poms, but beneath the glitz and glory the marching characters will be dressed as skeletons. It is an ironic image, and should grow in strength with the feverish pitch of celebration and Yankee-Doodle pageantry laid atop of images of death.

Our band of players will be marching on Saturday, February 15th, which is the World Day of Protest against the planned war with Iraq. Chicago's factions will be joining the international community by taking to the Devon street where a joint anti-war/solidarity with Pakistani citizens march is scheduled, so our party will be uniting with over 50 organizations. We'll meet at 10:45 a.m. at Bombay Hall (2448 W. Devon, owners Mohammed and Rashid) for a suit up and brief rehearsal, join the central rally (Devon and Leavitt) at noon, and start the music at 12:45 for the mass march down Devon.

There will be a number of painted skeleton costumes and black and white
make-up available on a first come-first serve basis, but you should dress in all black so we can supplement with masking tape bones in a pinch. Top costumes will include marching band hats and epaulets (which we will provide) but please wear red, white, and/or blue bottoms (pants, short skirts or shorts). Warm under layers would be smart. Don't forget noisemakers, batons, pom-poms and/or any musical instruments, and a warm thermos. No worries about musical ability.

For a map of the route, parking, and information about the other groups
marching you can go here.
